South African poultry producers have just under 161 million chickens on more than 1 000 broiler and layer farms, according to statistics compiled
by the SA Poultry Association (SAPA).
The report details the distribution and size of poultry producing operations. In the first quarter of this year, the national flock comprised 128.1 million chickens in the broiler industry and 32.8 million in the egg industry - a total of 160.9 million birds.
North West province is the country’s leading chicken producer, with 35.7 million birds, or 22.2% of the national total. Mpumalanga is second with 19.7%, and Gauteng and
the Western Cape are joint third on 13.4%
Of the 725 broiler farms on SAPA’s database, 89 are subsistence farms, 104 are small commercial farms and 532 are large commercial operations. The 278 egg producers comprise 14 subsistence farms, 114 small commercial farms and 150 large commercial producers. The above information ensures our customers of the capacity to deliver the required volumes of stock.
Poultry Size & Feed Consumed
Boilers are fast-growing chickens that are specifically raised for meat production. Boiler chickens are fed more to reach the target weight or size between 6 to 8 weeks of age.
The Growth progress of your broiler can be monitored using a chart known as a Broiler feeding Chart.
The quantity of feed a broiler will eat per day will depend on the age and size of the broiler. The chart at 6 week, a bird will consume 1.43kg a week. This will average out to 0.204kg feed per day.

Feeds has to be safe, superior and quality feeds to all livestock. This is increasingly relevant to modern commercial and emerging farmers. The Processing facility is a fully integrated broiler producer with processing capacity of approximately 100 thousand broilers per week. The facility processes fresh, frozen and pre-cooked birds and produce other top quality value added products.

We take great care with the processing of our poultry in order to ensure the quality, freshness, taste and safety of our products. All of our poultry is produced, processed and transported to the absolute highest standards.
For foodservice, there are two types of processed chicken: commodity and value- added.
COMMODITY:
Chicken sold as refrigerated, frozen or ice packed or pre-cooked.

come in three different forms: Tray pack, Individually Frozen (IF) or Individually Wrapped (IW).
Ice packed poultry is a third option but is quickly diminishing in use, making way for more effective and efficient methods.
VALUE-ADDED:
Chicken that has undergone additional processing to add value to the product to selling well. Pre-marinated, trimmed, breaded or shaped chicken products are all examples of value-added chicken.
It may come ready to cook (RTC), partially (PC) or fully cooked (FC).
Poultry Farming
We have a current production capacity of 20 000 eggs per day. However, we can make use of a large number of contract growers, to increase this number substantially. Our Commercial egg production begins at our world class production facility, where specialized breeds of laying hens are meticulously bred and raised.
In this tightly controlled environment, conditions are optimize to ensure the health and welfare of the hens.
One egg contains all the nutrients and building blocks required to grow a baby chicken. Eggs are loaded with high-quality proteins, vitamins, minerals, good fats and various trace nutrients. Eggs contain a range of vitamins and minerals including vitamin A, vitamin E and Selenium which all act as important antioxidants.
